The story behind the cup...
Murang'a, Kenya
Located in the Mathioya Division of Murang’a County, Kangunu works with around 3,000 smallholder farmers, processing coffees grown in the region’s fertile volcanic landscape. The factory has built a reputation for excellence while incorporating environmentally friendly practices.
Water sourced from the nearby Kangunu Stream is used throughout processing before being recirculated to support local conservation efforts. Combined with temperatures ranging from 12–25°C and favourable growing conditions, the cherries mature slowly, developing exceptional sweetness and density.
Following processing, the coffee is graded to the AA standard, a classification reserved for some of Kenya’s largest and most sought-after beans. The result is a vibrant and expressive cup with notes of gooseberry, blackcurrant and black tea, showcasing the distinctive qualities of Kenyan coffee.
